A New Chapter: Kiribati Becomes 86th Member of IGF on Mining and Sustainability
Kiribati has reached another milestone today as it officially becomes the 86th Member of the Inter-Government Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development. This international body is the accredited institution that provides key policy areas to governments to foster a more sustainable mining sector. Born out of the UN World Summit in 2002, this partnership was established in 2015 due to a lack of global forum to advance these priorities. Kiribati, Fiji and PNG are the only 3 Pacific Island Countries who are now members of this forum amongst developed and developing countries around the world. Kiribati membership in this global forum will allow us to advance our interests and projects related to sustainable mining on land and also in the marine environment, informed by global sustainable practices.
More info on this membership is available in this link below
