Two Senior Officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources (MFOR) recently attended key side events organized by the Bezos Earth Fund  at the Pacific Islands Nature Conservation Conference in Nouméa.

The sessions provided valuable insights into innovative conservation approaches, including Area-Based Management Tools (ABMTs) and Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs), with a strong focus on blending indigenous, cultural, and traditional knowledge into ocean planning. Delegates from Fiji, Palau, and Micronesia also shared crucial lessons and success stories on sustainable financing and fund management.

A major highlight of the trip was a strategic bilateral meeting with representatives from the Bezos Earth Fund and Live & Learn. Discussions centered on arrangements and support under the new US$4 Million Bezos Earth Fund Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) Project, which will drive essential Marine Spatial Planning work across Kiribati.
