The 4th Progress Meeting for the Fisheries Community Development Initiative for Sustainable Fishing (FCDSF) was held on 5 August 2026 at the PMC Office, KPF Building, bringing together representatives from the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources (MFOR), the Korea ODA DESK, and PMC (Hong-Ik Engineering and Consultants).
The meeting reviewed progress on the Bairiki Wharf and Breakwater Upgrade and the Tanaea Fisheries Training Centre. A key milestone was the near completion of the Training Centre design, which will serve as a national hub for fisheries training, capacity building, and skills development. PMC also confirmed the completion of major technical surveys at both project sites, providing the foundation for the next phase of implementation, while demolition of the Tanaea Warehouse remains on track for completion by the end of August 2026.
The meeting was attended by MFOR representatives, including Deputy Secretary Tieri and Director Taati, together with Resident Representative of Korea ODA DESK, Dr. Eom Myung-Chul and Project Manager of PMC, Mr. Joo Sik Kim. Dr. Eom reaffirmed Korea ODA's commitment to supporting the outcomes of the Te Wa Forum and its flagship projects, including the engagement of a local expert to prepare a Project Concept Paper (PCP) for possible Korea ODA funding.
MFOR sincerely appreciates the continued partnership of Korea ODA DESK, PMC, and all stakeholders in strengthening fisheries infrastructure, building national capacity, and supporting the sustainable development of Kiribati's fisheries sector.
