From 30 July to 3 August 2026, the Seafood Verification Division team successfully reinstalled and assessed a new water pump system at the Nonouti Fish Center. The team also provided training on well water and rainwater tank chlorination to strengthen local capacity for maintaining safe water supplies.
The upgraded water system was assessed as safe, reliable, and efficient, improving access to clean water for the fish center and the community. Reliable water supply supports hygienic fish handling, food safety, and the seafood supply chain from Nonouti to Tarawa.
The Division sincerely thanks the Mayor of Nonouti and his staff for their valuable support throughout the mission. Appreciation is also extended to the Tobwaan Waara Project for its financial assistance, which made this activity possible.
This mission contributes to improved public health, food safety, and the sustainable development of fisheries in Nonouti.
