Restoring Our Underwater Rainforests: Kiribati’s Message to the World

The Honourable Minister Ribanataake Tiwau reminded the global community that "Coral reefs are integral part of our shared ocean as they provide critical services to our people and governments". He further urged to accelerate action now to restore and save coral reefs - our underwater rainforests. Kiribati harbours "Super Reefs" which are resilient to stress factors and require further research. This high level panel was officiated by Dr Khaled Ashafani - Chair of International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), Ambassador Peter Thomson, UNSG Special Envoy for the Ocean and other distinguished speakers, the Honourable Ministers from French Polynesia, Niue and Samoa. Kiribati acknowledged ICRI, GCRMN, SAMS and SPREP for inviting Kiribati to share their stories to the world in this side event in the margin of UNOC3 in Nice, France
