The Honourable Minister Ribanataake Tiwau, accompanied by his official Senior Assistant Secretary Teeta Erikate; joined the High-Level Export Enhancement mission, which comprises of Fisheries Ministers from Fiji, PNG and Solomon Is, and took place in New Zealand from the 22 to 28 July 2025. This high-level mission was hosted by the Honourable Minister Shane Jones, New Zealand Minister for Oceans and Fisheries; and was premised on exploring new collaborative and enhancement opportunities surrounding the tuna value and supply chains, traceability, value-adding initiatives and marketing a premium Pacific Tuna Brand. The Government of Kiribati, through the MFOR acknowledged the Government of New Zealand through MFAT and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries for the warm hospitality and informative mission accorded to Fisheries Ministers. This learning mission was one of the HMFOR 100 Days priorities which was successfully concluded on the 26 June 2025.

The MFOR team comprised of Secretary Riibeta Abeta and Deputy Secretary Teue Baikarawa met with members of the High-level Persons Group (HLPG), Sir Dr Jimme Rodgers and Peseta Noumea Simi to discuss views and perspectives regarding the work of the Review of the Regional Architecture. Several areas were exchanged including existing regional arrangements on the fisheries sector, governance structures for better regional integration, accountability and service delivery to the member countries, and many more. These feedbacks from Kiribati and all other Pacific Island Countries, will be compiled and reported back to the Leaders for their further decision, during their upcoming 54th Pacific Islands Forum to be held in Honiara, September 2025. The MFOR team conveyed appreciation to the members of the HLPG for the opportunity to share views and contribute to this important piece of reform work to the regional architecture.
